The reversible beam design allows the attachment to split logs upside down from inside the skid steer cab or operate horizontally for ground-level firewood processing outside the cab.

Changing configurations requires disconnecting the hydraulic routing, removing four bolts at the universal mounting plate, rotating the beam 180 degrees, and securely reinstalling the hardware. Quick-disconnect fittings are incorporated into the hydraulic system to make the changeover more convenient.

Two Splitting Configurations

Upside-Down Operation

In the upside-down configuration, the skid steer operator can approach a log, position the wedge, and split the round without leaving the cab. This setup reduces the need to lift or manually position large, heavy logs on a beam.

It is especially useful for:

• Oversized rounds
• Storm-damaged timber
• Woodlot cleanup
• Land-clearing projects
• Logs that are difficult to lift manually

Horizontal Operation

Rotating the beam 180 degrees converts the SSFF30 into a conventional horizontal splitter. This configuration allows firewood to be placed on the beam and split from outside the skid steer cab.

Horizontal operation may be preferred when:

• Processing manageable firewood rounds
• Using an optional four-way wedge
• Working with an assistant
• Organizing split wood near a trailer or pile

The machine must be shut down and hydraulic pressure relieved before changing configurations. All four mounting bolts must be securely reinstalled and tightened before operation.

Flip-Flop Conversion Process

The attachment changes configurations through the following general process:

1. Park the skid steer on stable, level ground.
2. Lower and securely support the attachment.
3. Shut down the skid steer and relieve auxiliary hydraulic pressure.
4. Disconnect the appropriate quick-connect hydraulic fittings.
5. Remove the four bolts connecting the beam to the universal mounting plate.
6. Rotate the beam 180 degrees.
7. Reinstall and securely tighten all four mounting bolts.
8. Reconfigure the hydraulic lines and in-line valve for the selected position.
9. Inspect all connections before restarting the machine.

Optional Four-Way Wedge

The optional four-way wedge bolts onto the beam slide and allows compatible straight-grained logs to be divided into four pieces during one stroke.

When this option is selected, the package includes:

• Standard 10-inch single wedge
• Bolt-on four-way wedge

Installing the four-way wedge reduces the available log opening by approximately 3 inches. Irregular, knotted, or oversized wood may still split more effectively with the standard single wedge.

Optional 32" Opening

The standard SSFF30 uses a 5" × 24" cylinder and provides a published 25-inch opening. An optional 5" × 30" cylinder increases the opening for longer firewood pieces.

This extended configuration is marketed with an approximately 32-inch opening. The option should be selected when ordering because it changes the splitter’s cylinder and overall configuration.
